Children’s Hospital at Scott & White
is seeking volunteers who sew…

Connie Madsen, Manager of Patient/Family Support Services is starting a new program for the Children’s   Hospital. Every child entering the hospital will get a really generic shaped muslin doll that he/she gets to decorate as they wish.  The dolls will be used by medical staff to explain to the child and siblings what will be happening with this patient—hoping to ease their stress    levels.

This is a very simple doll pattern. The doll is about 10-12 inches tall.  All materials (pattern, muslin & polyester stuffing) are supplied.  The idea is that a doll will be given to a child patient as they are admitted.  The child will draw on and/or decorate it as they wish.  The doll will be used to teach them and their siblings about the tests, treatments and surgeries, etc. Medical professionals will demonstrate on the doll.

This will be an on-going project and the goal is to stock at least 100 dolls per month. Seamstresses are needed, but others who may want to stuff the dolls or hand sew them closed after stuffing would also be  welcome and appreciated.
